8-week session on Mondays, September 26, October 3, 10, 17, 24, 31, & November 7, 14 – Time: 5-7pm – Ages: 7 to Adult
Maker’s Club class description: A blend of technology, art, and fabrication techniques emphasizing creativity and resourcefulness. We will begin with some basic electronics covering simple circuits, powering LEDs, controlling small motors and care and feeding of Arduino (an open source microcontroller). The Arduino classes will introduce students to the structure of a program and give them the tools to get started learning this vast and amazing world. We will have a special Halloween edition of the class that starts slightly early and helps participants make costumes and add LEDs to them. We will cover basic construction techniques for fabricating with wood, plastic, metal (no welding), found objects and salvaged technology parts. Emphasis will be on techniques that do not require expensive materials or overly dangerous tools, and we will try to avoid hot glue. Time will also be spent familiarizing students with the 3D printers and other equipment at the NWA Fab Lab.
*All materials for Monday Maker’s Club will be provided to students; however, students can choose to purchase their electronic kits for $25 to take home. Unpurchased materials stay at the Fab Lab. Purchasing the kit is not required.
*Students are able to join the Monday Maker’s Club any time for a prorated price. Each weekly class will address a particular aspect of making and will not depend on previous class. Just call the Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce at 521-1710 to sign up at a prorated price.
